Sometimes the difference between a love story and a horror story is where the ending comes . . . The Lost Sisters Reviews
This was a pretty good read to get into Taryn's head about things. However, I still don't like her. But I mean, you don't really have to to like the book.
I also was not a fan of the second person POV—it's always an odd feeling. Like as soon as the word "you" is used, I look down at myself, and point to my chest like "who, me?"
But I will say I seriously love Holly's writing, and this was a great novella to get a little more of the world in between the books, along with a different character's PO ...more
I'm so desperate for The Wicked King and my silly little self was like "oohhh this will be a nice thing while we wait!" Actually it's TORTURE. And it also gives you a peek of TWK so like...no, no, it's fine, I wanted to be impaled by an ebook because of my intense need to know what happens next. 😭
I still don't like Taryn, but I liked getting to see her perspective. She is so desperately in need of being wanted, and I find that so sad that she can't get it from anywhere else but the cruelly mani ...more
Taryn dear, from the bottom of my heart, I wish you the absolute worst, you spineless little worm. You’re selfish, whiny, weak and desperately need to grow a backbone. I hope Jude cuts you in half.
So yeah, Taryn’s a bitch. I guess we all knew that but I’m surprised how she actually made me hate her even more in this novella than I already did. I could feel my resentment towards her growing with every page I turned. This was quite interesting to read even though it didn’t really provide any new i ...more
Let’s start with a love story.
Or maybe it’s another horror story. It seems like the difference is mostly in where the ending comes.
Ah, I only wish this was longer!
The Lost Sisters is a tiny story and even tinier than it first appears because the last ten or so pages is an extract from The Wicked King. It's an apology - of sorts - from Taryn to Jude. I love that Black chose to have Taryn directly address Jude as she explains her actions and motivations. It made it a more emotional read. And, he ...more
Taryn can throw herself and her so-called "apology" off a cliff.
edit 10/7: i didn't like this :)
it could be that it's been too much time since i've read the cruel prince but i didn't really feel that this novella was necessary. i know i shouldn't assume anything about holly black's characters but i could have guessed that taryn was a dumb ass, naive, loved up, fool.
i think i would have preferred this more if she hadn't had any remorse for her actions. her weeping and "but i was in love" justification to all of her actions was just... not interesting to me.
wow taryn is the actual worst sister alive
Ahhhh December can't come soon enough I'm gonna re-read The Cruel Prince as a Christmas treat. Beyond excited for the Wicked King💜💜
*intense eyebrow waggling*
P.S I will never like Taryn.
