West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House Reviews

I really enjoyed the diverse experiences shared by the authors in this book. Most of the contributors worked in the Office of Public Engagement, but we also get a story from the (then) Head Pastry Chef and a couple of people who worked for the National Security Council. The feeling you get at the end is how hard everyone worked, how invested they were in their jobs and how touched they were by the work they performed. I am grateful they did the jobs they did and that they chose to share a part o ...more

I enjoyed this book for what is was -- a retrospective view of the careers of

White House staffers in various positions during the Obama years. Some of the essays in this collection read as hagiography, others are very self-important, and many gave an interesting perspective into the inner workings of the White House. Although Obama himself only lurks in the background of these memoirs, I don't believe that non-supporters will enjoy this book very much. I found this enjoyable, but found it diffic

A beautiful, well-written and inspiring collection of stories that reflect the Obama Whitehouse as a diverse, understanding, and informed workplace. Each audio essay was read by its author, you could hear in their voices how much respect they had for Obama's leadership style and how that enhanced the quality of life for everyone around him and his cool family. They are an honorable people that made that era possible, the country misses these ideals they stove towards and will fight like hell to ...more

West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House is an anthology of personal essays from those in the White House during the Obama Administration and was collected and edited by Gautam Raghavan. The theme of this anthology is just personal stories about the former First Family – the Obamas.

For the most part, I really like these contributions. A dozen and half staffers bring the reader deep inside the presidency and offering intimate acco

West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House by Gautam Raghavan is an interesting read of the stories from the people who worked in the West wing. Unfortunately, it did not address the reality of policies . It was more like a love letter to the Obamas. It was interesting to read about the people who worked in the west wing during Obama's administration.

I received a copy thru a Goodreads Giveaway.

This is a collection of personal accounts from staffers in the Obama White House (not the ones most people knew by name or saw on TV but people who got stuff done). Another disclosure-first review: I’ve known and adored the editor since grad school so I wouldn’t give this anything less than a 5 no matter what. I also worked for a year and a half in the same White House (though in a much less visible and important role than the authors) and so came to this book with a lot of my own nostalgia and ...more

It is only in hindsight, that I completely and totally appreciate the magic that transpired in the White House between 2008-2016. There was such integrity, intelligence and thoughtfulness all through Barack Obama's administration. And that was intentional. Obama wanted to fill his White House with as much diversity as he could, and from list of authors in this book, he succeeded.

This book is absolutely phenomenal. Every author has a specific moment they are writing about, and they write about t

A thoughtful anthology of essays by a diverse collection of crucial players from the Obama White House. Even more interesting than the legislative clout of this group of accomplished individuals is how they made their initial forays into public service and the ways in which the people in their lives and larger communities were forever changed because of it. Quite inspiring.

This is one of the first books I’ve come across about political life that captures with such sensitivity a range of human pe
