West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House Reviews
I loved this book. The voices and stories are so well spoken, moving and important. If you aren't already missing Obama in the White House, you will be after you read this book.
Reading this, I was reminded of all the reasons that Obama is the only Democrat that I have ever voted for. It wasn't about politics, it was about getting behind a man who not only represents what I want America to look like in the future, but brought all of those values with him to the White House. I've read both of the ...more
West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House by Gautam Raghavan is an interesting read of the stories from the people who worked in the West wing. Unfortunately, it did not address the reality of policies . It was more like a love letter to the Obamas. It was interesting to read about the people who worked in the west wing during Obama's administration.
I received a copy thru a Goodreads Giveaway.
To summarize this book in a single word, I would have to choose hope.
This is a love letter to Barack and Michelle, and the entire Obama administration; a resounding call for respect, and achievements through adversity. These individual stories of striving above strife are a resounding history, created from the forward momentum of our 44th president’s platform.

We do not fully appreciate the integrity, compassion and humanity embodied by the Obamas and exemplified in their time as President and First Lady of the United States. In story after story in this book, by every West Wing staffer imaginable from speech writers to the pastry chef to the West Wing receptionist, that is what comes through. The goodness. The kindness. The putting others before themselves. This book will comfort you in these terrifying times and will inspire you to retain hope.
It is only in hindsight, that I completely and totally appreciate the magic that transpired in the White House between 2008-2016. There was such integrity, intelligence and thoughtfulness all through Barack Obama's administration. And that was intentional. Obama wanted to fill his White House with as much diversity as he could, and from list of authors in this book, he succeeded.
This book is absolutely phenomenal. Every author has a specific moment they are writing about, and they write about t ...more
A fantastic read! Stories told so well. So nice to read positive stories of the White House.
I suspect that many first impressions for West Wingers will be skewed on a reader's feelings for the Obama family. This book reminds everyone that it was an administration for eight years, not just the 44th President and First Lady.
While it's heartening to read each person's experiences with Barack and Michelle, I was surprised that Biden and other senior staff (named or unnamed) were just as empathetic and encouraging to their peers, according to these various accounts. The positive work enviro ...more
