Descender, Vol. 6: The Machine War Reviews

I was afraid that after all of the foreshadowing, character buildups and the mystery surrounding this comic series would prove to much for the writers to give a fitting conclusion for this story. But they pulled it off amazingly. The end of the story was well wrapped, the mythology was well explained and most of the characters got their fitting time to shine.

I just wish that this last issue was a few chapters longer to fully develop some scenes there, as they felt a bit rushed.

    Looking forward to

I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this volume.

I guess I just wasn't prepared for this to be the end of this part of the story if you know what I mean?

I did really love the explanations we got as to who/what Machinekind was, and why they originally attacked everyone.

Another knock out by Jeff Lemire. Sounds like some weren’t crazy about the ending but I really loved it. Looking forward to the new sequel/spin off series next year. Jeff Lemire, you’ve done it again !

Another solid installment of Descender. I get like there were too many threads left untied though. This will sound very dumb, but a lot happened, but nothing much really happened. I guess I feel like some parts of the story need to be closed in order to make the important parts stronger. This was still very good, don’t get me wrong. This entire series has been so creative, it’s unreal. Haha.

Kind of disappointed with the ending of this series. Even though that was probably the point, there's no real agency in the main characters anymore near the end. (view spoiler) ...more

-Jeff Lemire writes a compelling family drama with weird window dressing set in space.-

Pretty good hook right? (and, no surprise, it's a great read) - What takes this premise from 'good' to 'Great' is Dustin Nguyen's art. This story wouldn't have the heft/weight that it carries without it.

There are plenty of world and character details in what he puts on the page, but the soft edges of the water color used and depth/saturation of page really makes this unlike anything else right now. It gives

This was a great one. The origin and the end story into one. A bit too hasty ending for my taste, but still very fun premise. We as humans are so arrogant and self-centered in our own existence that a story like Descender makes a fresh and original view of a need of a reset button for this world.

I mentioned before that I absolutely loved the contrast the aquarelle art makes with this futuristic story. But it also fits perfectly with the depicting of emotions and drama.
